  The decision to protest in Bendigo came after Bishop Tomlinson described the Melbourne Response into child sex abuse as "groundbreaking" in a statement to the media earlier this month.

  In a statement, Bishop Tomlinson said,"“In the first instance, victims should contact the police".

  "The group of protesters have taken part in wider protests against Cardinal George Pell in the past, with a group recently paying to have a banner towed across Sydney in the sky calling for his resignation."

  In February 2014 Pell was appointed to be the first Cardinal-Prefect of the newly created Secretariat for the Economy. [15] In this role, Pell will become responsible for the annual budget of the Holy See and the Vatican .

  In 2014, the Royal Commission into child sex abuse was told how lawyers representing Cardinal George Pell and the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney helped run up bills of $1.5 million against a victim of sexual abuse. The lawyers, acting on the church’s instructions, “vigorously” fought John Ellis through the courts despite warnings of Ellis' “fragile psychological state”.

  "The NSW Court of Appeal ruling eventually gave the Catholic Church its notorious “Ellis Defence” — that it could not be sued as a legal entity and could not be held liable for abuse committed by a priest."

  In a statement to the Commission Cardinal Pell reversed his earlier stance, saying: “My own view is that the Church in Australia should be able to be sued in cases of this kind.” [27]

  Child Protection First (St. Paul, MN) – Today, Judge John Van de North issued an order bifurcating the Doe 1 v. Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis and Diocese of Winona civil lawsuit.

  The decision today to separately try the public nuisance claim before the negligence claim is a giant step forward for public safety and child protection.

  The trial for the public nuisance claim is scheduled to begin November 3, 2014, followed by the trial of the negligence claim on January 5, 2015.

  “The harm being done by the dangerous practices of the Archdiocese is imminent and real,” said Doe 1’s attorney, Jeff Anderson.

  “This is why the trial of the public nuisance case before the negligence case is a giant step toward public safety and child protection.   It includes institutions, such as churches, and since it simply eliminates the SOL both back and forward…no window necessary. It does allow cases which were set aside due to an expired SOL to be reopened, so that portion does contain a 2 year window. This is a very strong bill, one of the best if passed as it is written it would be best in the country for victims.

  this may come as a shock to some people, but the current forum structure was kind of thrown together without much real thought and then evolved a bit over time.

  there are a few things that particularly grate on me and areas where i don't think the subjects work particularly well.

  'friends' is a bit vague and becomes a dumping ground, news & world events vs politics & current affairs is hard to decide sometimes, child abuse is a scandal but isn't contained withing 'scandals & coverups' etc.... with a new forum platform imminent, it's a good time to solicit ideas to improve things.
